TIT Chapter 4: The scammer? Or the scammed?

“Great Senior, this one dares not to say that he is worthy right now, but this one believes he will not disappoint your legacy!” The bandit shouted, almost begging as if a child that did not want to lose his newest toy.
Truth be told, he couldn’t help feeling as such. Given the power he felt in the weapon, he knew that if he was given time, he would only rise to the top of this world and might even be able to become one of the legendary practitioners that broke past this world to enter an even higher realm!
Everyone else in the area froze, afraid to disturb their conversation. This was possibly a treasure containing a spirit strand of a practitioner far beyond that of Nascent Soul cultivation. This was more than enough to wipe them all out instantly. This was also the reason why the bandit did not leave immediately upon hearing the voice for he knew that if he were to be disrespectful, he would not only lose this weapon, but also his life. However, if he were to catch this senior’s fancy, he might be able to tag along his coattails and get help for his plans!
                --
As of now, Jie Jun was feeling a great headache, he had not only lost a great portion of his vitality but also lost the weapon that his vitality had condensed into the hands of a bandit. At least the swordsman looked like a nice guy. Given the bandit’s current personality, who knew if he would use his weapon to go around looting others and harming people. Even though Jie Jun was not a saint, he did not want something that belonged to him to end up harming others. Since they were being obedient right now and thought that he was a great senior, then he would continue acting like such!
“Young man, what is your dream!”
“Great Senior, I wish to rise above those filthy nobles, corrupt officials and destroy those who get in my path!”
This shocked Liu and Ming greatly. They thought that he would be someone obsessed with looting and killing people. As the bandit turned to look at them, he remarked: “Some do not have the luck of being protected with their gifts! I can only pay back my vengeance slowly after accumulating strength from the riches of others!”
“I asked you, young man, what is your dream! Is the death of those who harmed your friends and family enough to put your family to ease? Is it enough to make them proud of you? Is it enough to make yourself worthy of this Lord of Slaughter Blade?”
This stunned the bandit. He hadn’t revealed his circumstances in detail and yet this senior seemed to have known all about him. Yet, his secrets didn’t even seem like secrets to him. They were probably the mere squabbles between children! As he lowered his head to ponder, he realised how empty he was and how great the weapon in his hands seemed to be. He only wished to kill a few scumbags that had harmed him in his life. Nothing else seemed to matter. However, he still had a bottom line, he would not kill anyone he looted that was innocent. Yet, to this great senior, he felt like he became similar to those scumbags that he so despised.
Letting go of the handle, he sighed: “Great Senior, I understand your point. I am clearly not a suited candidate. I apologise for wasting your time.”
“Young man, this Lord of Slaughter Blade has affinity with you, hence, I brought it out. However, you need to have a dream to bring out its true potential! Weapons are mere means in this world! The self is the most important! If I gave it to you and you used it to slaughter only weak beings you deem evil or wrong, how could you ever live up to this blade!”
Instantly, the bandit’s eyes lighted up. This senior did not plan on taking away the blade from him!?
“Great Senior, what is it that you might want from this lowly one?” Upon realising that the senior actually placed some weight on him already made him respect him more and wished to repay him for this gratitude.
“As I have requested before.” The voice solemnly stated, without a hint of emotion.
Upon hearing this, the bandit had his own enlightenment. The senior most likely wanted to know what he wanted to accomplish with the blade, or rather, what he himself planned on accomplishing in the future!
Without further thought he shouted: “I wish to cut down all obstacles in my path! See the world for its true colours! Live my life without worrying about the schemes and plots of others!” These were the very things that came to his mind instantly upon being questioned.
At this moment, the blade in front of him instantly brightened, as if responding to his exclamation. He was then filled with gratitude towards the great senior, for allowing him to reach new levels of affinity with this blade.
                --
“What the …? What’s with the shining moments? Oh well, it seems like this blade is meant for him I guess? Let’s make sure he doesn’t do bad things to normal people and I can sort of let him go? Never thought I could guess the source of his emotional trauma so easily though HAHA!” Jie Jun thought.
With a solemn voice, he said: “Then go forth young man, take whatever revenge you want, but leave the innocent out of it. Stop looting and harming others and live a straightforward path that will leave others striving to achieve your success. Most importantly, make sure those who helped you can be proud of it! Compassion! Loyalty! Kindness! Intelligence! Respect! Trust! Live on with these qualities!”
“Surely with the Confucianist values he will be a good person. I think?” Jie Jun nonchalantly thought.
The bandit nodded vigorously, absorbing each word as though it were a commandment from heaven. Grabbing the blade, he seemed almost like a different person. He signalled for his men to follow him and kneeled to the pavilion: “This one’s name is Jakino! This one is grateful for Senior’s guidance!” Then he left immediately while sending a thought transmission to Liu: “I apologise for my unruly behaviour, I wish for your success in obtaining whatever it is you deserve. I shall take my leave!”
Liu and Ming were shocked. Jakino was a renowned bandit in the region who was able to escape even from Golden Core experts. Rumours had it that once he set his sight on his target, he would definitely walk away with something from the other party. For him to completely change character and wish others all the best seemed nigh impossible!
                --
Now, things seemed a little awkward as there were only Liu and Ming left behind. Jie Jun was now racking his brains thinking of ways to chase them away while they looked at him expectantly.
Finally, Liu broke the silence and asked: “Great Senior, could it be that there is no fate between us and your inheritance?”
“Oh man, what do I do? What do I do? I can’t afford another weapon, can I?” Jie Jun rolled around and stared at his red bar. He had already guessed that it consumed his “health bar” of sorts to create items and getting too low was not preferable given he had just arrived in this world.
Liu asked once again, “Great Senior, even though this is rude, I do not wish for a great weapon like Jakino, but could you please give my Junior Brother Ming a chance?”
Ming was shocked and immediately shook his head: “Senior Brother deserves this more than me, Great Senior please help him instead!”
As the both of them started bickering over who deserved a gift more, Jie Jun had an idea spark in his mind. Clearly, this Liu was much stronger than the man named Ming so he decided to gamble on the “Foundation Establishment Pill” option in his item which seemed like a much cheaper item compared to the blade. Selecting the option, he felt a pain no worse than before in his stomach, realising that he was most likely scammed! This pill must be something special for it to hurt so bad!!!
Just as the two men were arguing, a green sphere appeared this time, emitting a strong medicinal scent that rivalled that of the pills that only Nascent Soul Cultivators used. While Liu and Ming stared on, the sphere slowly revealed the item it contained: A green pill and a red pill.
With Liu’s knowledge, he instantly recognised the two pills! They were Foundation Establishment Pills, but clearly of much higher quality than normal Foundation Establishment Pills! Normal ones were just white in colour and would not be so strong in elemental energy. Clearly these were pills meant for cultivators of the Wind and Fire Nature! Perfect for both of them! Normally, elemental biasedness only started appearing after one practised a suitable technique in the Foundation Establishment Realm, not immediately as they entered. This was clearly some high-level master at work that ensured that his inheritors would have much stronger foundations. With the level of medicinal prowess in the pill, even Liu could consume it to restart his foundation! Although he would lose some cultivation in the progress, his Qi would become much purer than anyone in the same realm, ensuring further progress in his cultivation path! As for Ming, he would most likely have the easiest Foundation Establishment of all practitioners in his sect!
                --
Jie Jun was now almost in tears as he stared at his red bar which only had about 20 percent left. Why was he getting scammed every time he used a function in this damned pavilion! Was this karma from acting like some great expert? This wasn’t fair!
